otherthingsAnother great pano! This wall is officially beyond my wildest dreams.
otherthingsAlso, I like your analysis.
The tragedy of the commons is beautifully illustrated by project called The Smaller Picture. Set a collective loose on the task of making a picture, and they will make it, clarify and perfect it, and then destroy it.
abelincolnjrgood for them, I was kind of suprised how many people just went over other people without even batting an eye. Everyone wanted to be a part of it of course but the usual "dont go over other ppl" went right out the window. It was weird but at a certain point it was a free for all. Glad that dym and irak came and checked the spots. also I have to say cheeks stayed up the longest...haha
jcksphtsjake - awesome little piece on that. some sense in a sea of shit. nice.
urbanlegendsnice analysis, you called it like it was. you might not wield a spray can, but you a deep writer.
hiding behind open eyesI agree with your thoughts on the whole mess of this.... I just want to add that I do think there was a cost to some of the artists (not me) who put their art both inside and outside of the building.... Some of those artists spent weeks on the pieces they put on 11 spring, many went that whole time without enough sleep, food, money, ect... Just because some thing wasn't illegal doesn't mean that people didn't put their heart and soul into it, and it doesn't mean there was no cost.....
otherthingsI saw the whole thing as almost like a potlatch. People expending lots of energy on a piece, knowing full well it might only last minutes before someone goes over it. (At least, I hope they all knew ;-) A great big fireworks display, over and done before you have time to blink.
Michael HockMight as well throw in my 2cents and a wrench in the spokes.............I think this is the lamest thing since sliced bread. I really dont understand why Irak and DYM would go over all the works on the outside. I understand that 11Spring is their home turf, but this is a gallery setting, not just some toys that went over their work. Have a grain of respect for the people that traveled across oceans and spent more time and hundreds more dollars than Irak did with that one can of shitty red. Its childish beef. Hell, some of the artists work they went over were probably doing graffiti before they were born. And if you are going to represent your home turf by going over someones work at a gallery, at least do something that is aesthetically pleasing. I mean, hundreds of people from all corners of the globe are seeing these pics and its pretty easy to see what kind of skill level these guys have with a can. Try to make a statement without making a fool of yourself. It all comes down to a little bit of respect........enough said.
urbanlegendsthe guy above me is an idiot.
he should really think before he types.
! INSPIRE !thanks for the pano link...they are really sweet, jake =)
erdalitothis walls was beautiful-those guys not!
so childish and cowardly!
i have no problem when things get overworked, or time makes them disapear so people can use the spot for a new piece-its the street and when you put things there you know that, it will become different.
but this is violation.
well thx jake for sharin this-and much more thank yous for document the "visual history" of 11 spring the last month.
greetings
